The Industry Documents Library at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a Senior Frontend UI Web Developer to help us build and deploy resilient software that solves intriguing problems. This role will be responsible for the development, support, and evolution of user interface of the Industry Documents Library.
As the Senior Frontend UI Developer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining web applications that helps hold corporations accountable for their impacts on public health. You'll work with the development team, as well as UX/UI designer and graphic designer. You'll work closely with our backend and full-stack developers to deliver consistent and reliable web experience. You'll work with our designers to improve usability for our users. You'll optimize web design for mobile and other platforms for maximum speed. You'll work with designers to ensure high-quality graphic standards and brand consistency. Ultimately, your work will have a direct impact on the user experience of our users.
This scope for this position includes but is not limited to develop new user-facing features, build reusable code and libraries for future use, ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs, optimize application for maximum speed and scalability, assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end, collaborate with other team members and stakeholders, and automated integration and acceptance testing for web applications
This is a remote position working with a fully remote (and fun) team. This is a one-year position with possibility to extend based on funding.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
The UCSF Library provides a wide range of services and resources supporting health science education and research to the UCSF community and beyond. The Library’s Data Science Initiative (DSI) offers workshops and online educational materials for guidance in collecting, securing, sharing, and analyzing health science data. The Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute(BCHSI) is a critical component of a global UCSF initiative in Precision Medicine, which seeks to aggregate and integrate vast, disparate datasets to advance understanding of biological processes, determine mechanisms of disease, and inform diagnosis and treatment of patients. Beginning with a base of excellent computational faculty dispersed among our four top-ranked professional schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy) and Graduate Division, superb research programs and outstanding Medical Center, BCHSI will establish a central convening center, hire additional faculty, and build programs for research and education. BCHSI will develop and enhance UCSF’s computational approaches and strategies in basic, translational, clinical and population-based biomedical research, working with partners in industry and academia where appropriate. It will be a campus hub for computer scientists and for researchers who employ computation as a primary tool in their biomedical research.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Minimum 3+ years of related experience
- Minimum 3 years working on complex web applications; Knowledge of the entire web development process
- Experienced writing scalable code in React, prefer use of Typescript for the development
Preferred Qualifications
- Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
- Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
- Proficient understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
- Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
- Proficient understanding of responsive design and mobile first development best practices
- Proficiency with web-related protocols and architectures (MVC, MVVM, REST APIs, JSON, HTTP)
- Experience with Typescript a plus
- Experience with developing accessible web and mobile applications
- Experience with Bootstrap
- Experience with Content Management Systems, such as WordPress
- Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them
- Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image. Familiarity with tools such as Gimp or Photoshop is a plus
- Familiarity with AWS
- Great problem-solving skills and work well in a team
- Experience with coaching and mentoring other developers
