CSUSM is hiring! CSUSM is pleased to invite applications for an innovative Head of Library Technology Initiatives and Development (LTID) in the University Library at the level of Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian. This position is tenure-track and is located in North San Diego County.

The Head of LTID will provide leadership, guidance, and strategic direction to the Library Technology Initiatives and Development Department and foster a creative, collaborative, and inclusive work environment. The LTID Department, which is comprised of four library staff members and two student assistants, includes the work of project management, web development, discovery services, management of CSUSM’s instance of the CSU collaborative Unified Library Management System, knowledge management, systems integration, and close collaboration with the User Experience Librarian. As a department head, the incumbent will serve as a member of the Library Leadership Team and facilitate communication and coordination with other departments in the Library.   

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Serves as the head for the LTID department, providing lead work direction for staff, including participation in the staff evaluation process and facilitating access to appropriate staff development opportunities.  

  • Maintains current awareness of emerging trends and innovations in information technology and digital library services and applications. 

  • Provides leadership in the planning, implementation, and assessment of the operational management, user support processes, and development projects of LTID. 

  • In collaboration with LTID staff and faculty: 

  • Manages and assesses the workflows and processes utilized to provide support for Library technology services and systems infrastructure. 

  • Establishes strategic goals and objectives for the LTID department and develops, evaluates, and continually improves library digital services and systems. 

  • Uses relevant programming languages for library website and application development and updates. 

  • Implements project management methodologies and software to keep projects on schedule and to communicate with stakeholders.  

  • Collaborates with the User Experience Librarian to implement technology best practices and to lead the Library’s Digital User Experience Strategy committee.  

  • Collaborates with campus Instructional and Information Technology Services as needed and specifically around issues of security and accessibility.   

  • Supports and collaborates with others (including users) as appropriate in the administration of the Library’s instance of Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo VE to optimize users’ discovery experience.  

  • Makes recommendations to the Dean on department budget, staff, and facility needs.  

  • Represents the LTID department on the Library Leadership Team.  

  • Pursues a strong research agenda within the field of academic librarianship or a job-related field.  

  • Actively participates in library, university, and/or professional-level service commitments.  

  • Other duties as assigned.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent.  

  • Demonstrated experience supervising or directing the work of staff.  

  • Demonstrated success in collaborative work within an academic library.  

  • Experience with project management methodologies and software (e.g., Atlassian products).  

  • Experience with knowledge management best practices.  

  • Experience with accessibility analysis of websites. 

  •  Knowledge of user experience assessment. 

  •  Demonstrated potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion under the Library's criteria for professional performance, scholarship, and service.
