Summary
As the Project Manager for Digital Repository Technology, you will facilitate and coordinate planning of digital repository systems to be shared by multiple services. You will also be responsible for project management and coordinating and executing implementation strategies. You will engage with experts in the organization to complement your own background in digital repository technologies and digital preservation. Project completion and partner satisfaction will be important, providing a unique opportunity to collaborate on the development of digital repository systems that meet the library's digital preservation and access goals.
Who We Are
The Digital Library Applications (DLA) department is the group within the Library Information Technology (LIT) division focused on the development of applications for management of and access to digital content held in library repositories. This includes applications for search and retrieval, display of content, creation and management of digital collections, and interoperability with other systems. Key examples are Deep Blue Repositories, Finding Aids, Digital Collections, Michigan Daily Digital Archives. Much of our code is publicly available on GitHub.

Responsibilities*
- Project Planning and Management (60%)
- Provide project management for technical (e.g. software development) and non-technical (e.g. planning) work.
- Develop, plan, and manage projects.
- Communicate with team members and partners throughout project life cycles.
- Ensure creation of project documentation.
- Provide project management for technical (e.g. software development) and non-technical (e.g. planning) work.
- Coordination of Strategy and Implementation (30%)
- Facilitate the creation of a shared digital repository technology roadmap that supports the library's digital preservation goals, policies and service models.
- Coordinate efforts for the library's repository systems among the respective service teams and leads.
- Gather feature requirements and related considerations by engaging with experts across the library, such as the digital preservation technology lead, solutions architect, developers, content specialists, the digital preservation librarian, department heads, and service teams.
- Work with digital repository service teams to understand their digital preservation needs and reflect them into common-ground digital repository strategies and project work plans.
- Work together with service-specific technical team leaders to align their implementation decisions with the library's overall strategic direction for all digital repositories.
- Facilitate the creation of a shared digital repository technology roadmap that supports the library's digital preservation goals, policies and service models.

- Serve on relevant LIT and library committees such as the LIT Coordinating Group and the Digital Preservation Steering Committee.
- Participate in relevant professional development or service opportunities.
- Represent and advocate for the library's interests in external communities and partnerships when appropriate.
- Stay up-to-date with new technologies and standards in the field of digital repositories and related preservation practices.
- Serve on relevant LIT and library committees such as the LIT Coordinating Group and the Digital Preservation Steering Committee.
Required Qualifications*
- ALA-accredited Master's degree and 3 or more years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully managing complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as an effective communicator between IT staff and service leads/partners.
- Experience working closely with digital repository systems or technology.
- Familiarity with digital preservation standards and best practices.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to incorporate these values into daily work.
- A basic understanding of and some experience with programming principles, practices, and tools.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience in project management for software development.
- In-depth knowledge of digital repository systems, such as DSpace, Hyrax, Islandora, or similar platforms, and their use in digital preservation.
- A thorough understanding of best practices and standards related to content, metadata, and interoperability and their role in digital preservation within a library or a cultural heritage institution.
- Experience in software development including basic knowledge of programming languages and application development, systems analysis and design, automation, and code management.
Work Locations
You will have flexible scheduling and a remote, hybrid, or fully on-site work environment. Additional Information
We estimate this position to begin in early March, 2024, with the final start date determined by the hiring manager and selected candidate.
This appointment is subject to the UM/LEO-GLAM collective bargaining agreement.

Salary and Rank
The salary range for this position is $64,000 to $74,000 for the Associate Librarian rank, and $75,000 to $91,000 for the Sr. Associate Librarian rank. Librarian appointments carry with them expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the Library's process for librarian promotion and advancement.

Reports directly to the LIT/DLA Department Head.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, on behalf of their Librarian, Archivists, and Curator bargaining unit (LEO-GLAM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
