Job Responsibilities
Chicago Collections Consortium
- Work closely with archivists at CCC member institutions in helping to prepare digital media and metadata for deposit into the CCC Portal.
- Work with members in the creation and maintenance of member pages on organizational website.
- Prepare user documentation and training, including webinars, and on-demand training for uploading materials to CCC portal.
- Manage the operation of the CCC Portal, including establishing new institution accounts, managing administrative settings and communicating with IT support when needed.
- Lead and participate in CCC Portal-related Committees.
- Research and collect information on reported issues to convey to other technical collaborators.
- Create, monitor and report on website analytics.
- Serve as administrator for systems that CCC uses (LibAnswers, Scalar).
- Lead and/or serve on relevant CCC Committees.
- Gathers, analyzes, and conveys user and member feedback.
- Work closely with the CCC Executive Director, Board, committees, and contractors on enhancements for the Portal.
- Advocate for underrepresented communities regarding both the portal content and features.
- Represent the CCC consortium at appropriate professional venues and conferences.
- Contribute to future grant proposals to further the scope and features of the CCC Portal.
UIC Library Digital Projects
- Contribute to descriptive metadata for newly digitized materials.
- Contribute to metadata enhancement for legacy digital collections.
- Participate in specialized digital projects as needed (for example, supporting transcribers working with handwritten or multimedia collections).
- Contribute to end-user assessment activities for UIC Library Digital Collections.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or from a master's level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country), or an advanced degree in history or museum studies
- Experience or familiarity working with Collections and/or Content Management Systems
- (Collection Management Systems such as ArchivesSpace, PastPerfect,or equivalent)
- (Content Management Systems such as CONTENTdm, Omeka, Islandora,or equivalent)
- Knowledge of technical and descriptive metadata standards
- Experience providing training or end-user support
- Presentation, written, and verbal communication skills
- Project management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collegial environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience working in an archives, library, or historically focused institution managing digital archival collections, digital humanities projects, digital scholarship, or an institutional repository (may include service as a graduate student or intern).
- Experience contributing to system requirements and analysis
- Experience with system assessment
Salary/Rank/Contract:
Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits for a twelve month appointment include 24 days vacation; 12 days annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); two dental plans available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage, but Medicare payment is required. This appointment is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and UIC United Faculty Local 6456, IFT-AFT, AAUP.
