RIPM (Répertoire international de la presse musicale / Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals) is the publisher of major online tools for the study of musical history and culture: RIPM Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals with Full-Text, the RIPM Preservation Series: European and North American Music Periodicals and RIPM Jazz Periodicals. A not-for profit organization based in Baltimore, RIPM works with a network of institutions, libraries, and individuals in Europe and the Americas and functions under the auspices of two international scholarly societies.  For more about RIPM, see www.ripm.org.

RIPM is seeking a sharp and organized person to manage production of its online publications. Responsibilities include ensuring continual production for multiple online databases (MSSQL/MySQL) and full text collections through two publication channels, overseeing quality control for publications, pursuing necessary bibliographic research, creating supporting data (e.g. KBART and MARC records), and analyzing current systems (written largely in php) for efficiency and simplification of procedures. This position oversees a team of digitization and publication assistants. As a small and flexible organization, this position can grow with the individual’s talents.

A bachelor’s degree in music, computer science, or a related area with sufficient knowledge or work experience is required; graduate-level studies in musicology or library science are preferred. Knowledge of musical history and bibliography is required. Experience with managing complex projects, knowledge of databases and data relationships is important. Creative problem solving, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail are required. Experience with coding / application development and reading ability in one of more foreign languages, though not required, is desirable.

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week). A one-year contract is required. While the position is based at the RIPM Center in Baltimore, during the period of covid-19 some telework may be required.

Salary: commensurate with experience and skills, and similar to that offered by universities.
