Essential Functions: Reporting to the University Library Archivist, the incumbent serves as a resource staff member regarding cataloging of continuing special collections, archives, and library materials. The incumbent will perform original descriptive cataloging using standard cataloging and classification tools; provide guidance and support to cataloging staff related to special collections materials, bibliographic control, authority data in the integrated library system; assists in training staff; responsible for re-cataloging materials; create descriptive metadata for digital collections in compliance with national standards; identify and prioritize special and unique materials requiring description and/or digitization; and assist researchers in the Special Collections reading room on occasion.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Four years of library-related cataloging experience or post-secondary education, or combination of both. Advanced knowledge of Library of Congress cataloging rules, standards and practices; familiarity with library collections, catalogs, research databases, and other research tools, and integrated library systems; exceptional technical and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels; strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail; demonstrate expertise in creating and correcting bibliographic records. Incumbent must have the ability to understand complex requirements for encoding holdings data; resolve cataloging problems; work independently; and keep current with changes in cataloging standards, tools and practices. Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
Special Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university. Advanced coursework in library science, history, or related field. Post-undergraduate library work experience, preferably in special collections, cataloging and Digital Collections. Experience with digital management software.
