POSITION DESCRIPTION: Case Western Reserve University seeks a focused, creative, and collaborative professional for the position of Applications Developer 2. This position will be responsible for maintaining the key elements comprising the software and systems infrastructure of the Kelvin Smith Library. Some of the primary components include:
  • Fedora/Hydra Repository (Ruby on Rails and Java)
  • Oracle/Apex applications (SQL)
  • Web management and applications (IIS and Apache)
The Applications Developer position is a non-supervisory position that reports to the Digital Learning & Scholarship Team Leader. Working under general supervision and within the Digital Learning & Scholarship team, the Applications Developer is charged with analyzing customer and technical requirements, and designing and delivering high quality and robust, library-supported, university-wide applications. Researching and developing technical requirements for enhancements to existing or new application software. Evaluating, maintaining, and developing solutions for Digital Case, a continually evolving digital repository environment servicing the entire university.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyze, design, write and test library-related application software for all campus libraries and the university. Function as a developer for the KSL website working with direction from the development manager. Create customized interfaces to the KSL Digital Library repository, Digital Case, for public usage and content providers. Function as 24*7 support person for all existing library web applications servicing the entire campus. Identify ways to measure and analyze database performance. Suggest and implement ways to improve performance and maintenance functions. Analyze current and continuing information systems requirements including data, processes and system integrations and translate them into programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required: Associates’ degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and five years of progressive experience. Or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and at least three to five years of progressive experience.

SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
