DIGHUMLAB is a newly established research infrastructure with the goal of supporting digital humanities and social science research by providing common virtual access to relevant digital and digitised resources for the humanities and the social sciences.
We are looking for a computer scientist, software engineer, or a person with similar qualifications to work for a distributed common secretariat, headed by the project leader (based in Aarhus). Employment will be on a project basis for a 5-year period, and the workplace will be the University of Copenhagen, Centre for Language Technology (www.cst.ku.dk). You will report to the DIGHUMLABproject leader but both you and your personal line manager will be located at the University of Copenhagen. Because of the distributed nature of DIGHUMLAB, you will be required to travel to Odense, Aarhus, and Aalborg, and also to European partners and meetings.

Job content
You will be in charge of the development and maintenance of the technical research infrastructure, based on user requirements related to the three DIGHUMLAB themes and to Denmark’s participation in the international research infrastructures CLARIN ERIC and DARIAH and TELEARC. CLARIN.DK is based at the University of Copenhagen and has already built a data repository with a web interface and services, including WAYF access control, http://www.clarin.eu/. Information about DARIAH can be viewed at http://www.dariah.eu/. Information about TELEARC can be viewed athttp://www.noe-kaleidoscope.org/telearc/about/. We will also expect you to liaise with technical specialists such as DEIC (http://www.deic.dk/), Danish libraries and museums, and European technical and research partners.
Your job is not only to oversee and coordinate the development and maintenance of DIGHUMLAB digital assets and equipment, but also to act as an advisor to humanities scholars on appropriate technology and services, to coordinate technical requirements for scholars, and to translate their ideas into technical specifications and solutions. It is important that you can liaise and mediate between technical and scholarly requirements, and help develop tools to integrate research aims with online and offline digital technology and related resources. This requires the ability to communicate via media and in person, via both technical documentation and material designed for non-specialists.

Qualifications
As the ICT person at DIGHUMLAB we expect you to have the following expertise:
• A degree in computer science, engineering or a similar university degree.
• An interest in designing and administering web-based collections and research management systems at a national level.
• Ability and interest in coordinating online communication technologies, forums, and digital repositories.
• Experience in web ontologies, efficient metatagging, datasets, and information architecture.
• Experience with designing, building, and deploying distributed systems, including experience with UNIX/Linux systems.
• A strong command of programming languages and web-based scripting such as C, SQL, Java, PHP, AJAX and Perl or Python; related skills such as XML, JavaScript, CSS.
• Ability to configure and administer distributed databases and webservers.
• Danish and English, spoken and written.
• Ability to present technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences, and to train others.

Preferable
• A grasp of appropriate object modelling and specification languages
• Knowledge of web-based front ends and related interface design issues
• Experience in web-data analysis and the design of web-based surveys.
• An interest in digital humanities and in research infrastructures in general.
• Any NOLDUS-related skills (such as eyetracking and survey software, see http://www.noldus.com/) would be an advantage.

• interested in collaborating internationally
• well-organised, with an ability to take a comprehensive view
• able to work in a project organization, able to collaborate, but also able to work on your own
• familiar with universities and research environments

Terms of employment:
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Depending on your qualifications it will be possible to negotiate a salary supplement.
