Unix Systems Administrator

Description

Responsible for systems administration of the Unix servers; web servers and associated services; installation and management of Unix servers and workstations; and the training of library personnel using them. Provides support to information providers, assisting them in publishing their information on the various available platforms. Develop digital library solutions to specifications for various library needs.

Required Qualifications:
- BS degree in computer science or related field
-Knowledge with Unix systems administration and working with related computer operating systems; virtual systems, web servers; networks; and information systems design;
-Excellent written and oral communication skills;
-Analytical and troubleshooting skills.
-Experience with Web applications, XML, Java and JavaScript, multiple independent web servers using a single platform, and system security.
-Experience with shell scripting, PHP, Perl, SQL, HTTP and one or more high level programming languages, such as Ruby/Java/Python/C++ and experience with a relational database such as PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
-Experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM and/or VirtualBox
-Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative in identifying and solving problems.

Preferred Qualifications:
-1+ year of experience with LINUX/UNIX system administration;
-Experience with Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS; Ubuntu; and Debian and of other Unix operating systems such as FreeBSD
-Knowledge of authentication mechanisms such as – CAS, Active Directory, LDAP, and Shibboleth
-Experience with digital repository and publishing platforms such as DSpace, Omeka, Drupal, Open Journal Systems, Open Conference Systems, MDID, XTF, Fedora Commons
-Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL.
-Experience with the presentation and archiving of digital media in a network environment.
-Experience with Zabbix, Nagios, or similar tools for system monitoring
-Experience with a configuration/deployment framework such as Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
-Experience with network technologies such as IPv6, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and firewalls
-Experience with IPMI, Serial-over-LAN, IP-KVM, and other remote management solutions
-Experience with high-availability, load-balancing and failover techniques
-Experience with SSH, SSL, and file sharing protocols such as NFS, iSCSI, Samba, AFP
