This is a grant-funded, limited duration position, expected to last for two years, pending funding availability. The position is anticipated at .90 FTE, or 36 hours/week. There is a possibility that the position may increase to full-time in the future, depending on needs, funding, and performance.The University of Oregon Libraries’ Digital Scholarship Center (DSC) collaborates with faculty and students to transform research and scholarly communication using new media and digital technologies. Based on a foundation of access, sharing, and preservation, the DSC provides digital asset management, digital preservation, training, consultations, and tools for digital scholarship.
The Oregon Digital Newspaper Program (ODNP) is an initiative to digitize historic Oregon newspaper content and make it freely available to the public through a keyword-searchable online database. The initial phases of the program concentrated on newspapers published between 1860 and 1922. Now, in its third phase, ODNP has made approximately half a million Oregon newspaper pages available online, and will add at least 100,000 additional pages between 2013-2015.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The ODNP Project Manager will: manage day-to-day workflow of the Oregon National Digital Newspaper Program grant (from the National Endowment for the Humanities); promote and provide outreach by developing education packages and presentations using Oregon digital newspapers, promoting resources at regional educational, library and historic association conferences and meetings, making site visits to local K-12 schools, historical societies, and public libraries; prepare interim and final grant reports with the Project Director, manage vendor invoices and grant budget reports, and conduct assessment and evaluation, including user studies. The position will supervise 1.0 classified employee and several student workers. Reports to the Head, Digital Scholarship Center and Project Director.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; demonstrated experience researching newspapers; demonstrated knowledge of digitization best practices; experience with XML; experience developing outreach and promotional materials; excellent communication and teaching skills; demonstrated project management experience; demonstrated organizational skills; and a high level of competence with computer systems. The successful candidate will support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment and may be required to successfully complete a background check. Desired: Experience with grant administration; supervisory experience; experience with assessment; degree in history, folklore, journalism or related field.
Salary and Benefits:
Minimum salary begins at $45,000 per year for full-time ($40,500 per year for .90 FTE) and will be commensurate with experience. The UO offers a generous benefits package (see: http://hr.uoregon.edu/benefits).
Employment Conditions:
This is limited duration position expected to last two years, works 12 months out of the year, 36 hours per week, and is classified as Officer of Administration. Annual, renewable contracts will be provided, pending funding availability and satisfactory performance.
