Manager, Discovery Service Engineering – Europe/Boston

The Manager, Discovery Service Engineering (MDSE) is responsible for managing a team of 4-10 Discovery Service Engineers (DSE or a.k.a. Sales Engineers) who act as the primary technical resources for the field sales force. The DSEs are responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate.


Primary Responsibilities:

Must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle
1.Manage Discovery Service Engineers
2.Authoritative expert on technology aspects of platform functionality, markets, trends
3.Pre-sales customer presentations and meetings, and RFIs/RFPs
4.Support the trial process and initial post-sales support/nurturing
5.Create and manage demos and other Sales support tools
6.Relationship management, Communication and technical strategy

As such, success in this position will be measured primarily on EDS sales growth, customer satisfaction, DSE utilization, DSE productivity and contributions to shared document repositories, and effectiveness in gathering product enhancements


Requirements;
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of technology Product Management, Consulting, Development, or Technical Support experience
  • 5+ years of experience and excellence in presenting technology, Internet, or software application products to internal and external audiences and various levels of Management
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong knowledge of web applications, databases, customer service, software development methodologies
  • Solid oral, written and listening communication skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% to regional and international locations
  • Must be local to either Boston, MA or a Northern Europe country


Desired Skills & Experience;
  • Experience with content management or portal software (e.g. VuFind, Sharepoint) and programming with Application Programming Interfaces (API) in a web application language (e.g. PHP, Ruby, Java, C#, ASP.Net)
  • Proficiency in HTML and JavaScript development
  • Experience and strong technology skills in a variety of Internet technologies, with an ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technology
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently is critical, while maintaining team involvement and meeting deadlines and deliverables. Extremely organized, detail oriented, and accurate; with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Previous experience with the interface usability habits of universities and research institutions’ various types of users such as students, researchers, faculty, and librarians
  • 2+ years experience with EBSCOhost or EIS products, Integrated Library Systems(ILS), Institutional Repositories, or other closely related web applications and/or library technology products
  • Expertise in Integrated Library Systems (ILS) products and protocols (e.g. Z39.50, OpenURL, NCIP)
  • Experience with institutional repository software and standards (e.g. OAI-PMH)
