Description

Perform original cataloging of archival audiovisual and paper-based collection material using MAVIS media asset management system.
Assign metadata to digital collection materials.
Work closely with MAVIS technical staff and UH IT systems staff to maintain MAVIS database functionality and explore integration with UH Library databases.
Participate in MAVIS professional user groups, forums and trainings.
Work with Web Developer to create a Web-accessible collection catalog.
Create and implement standard cataloging procedures and train appropriate staff.
Assist Head Archivist with processing collection materials, including arrangement, description and rehousing.
Assist with preservation & reformatting activities incl. monitoring environ conditions of stacks & vault, working w/ analog videotape monitoring & digitizing equipment, inspecting collection materials & making recommendations for preservation priorities.
Assist Head Archivist with administrative duties for the daily operations of the HKG Archives including maintaining and ordering office and archival supplies, communication with building facilities staff, communication with UH or RCUH administration.
Provide reference services and answer research related questions as needed.
Supervise student workers and interns.
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Arts and Sciences with major coursework related to library and information science, creative media and/or film and 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for cataloging activities in an academic library or archival setting; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of cataloging demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with cataloging.
Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of cataloging.
Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Experience with cataloging and metadata collection.
Experience working with analog videotapes and equipment.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with MAVIS or other integrated media asset management software.
Experience with the SAMMA Solo or other videotape digitizing system.
Knowledge of Greenstone Digital Library software, Voyager Integrated Library System, XML, XSLT.
Knowledge of digital video file formats.
Experience with Climate Notebook environmental analysis software.
Knowledge of Hawaiian media history, culture and language.
Able to lift 20-30 pound boxes.
Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
