This is a regular, full-time position in the University Library System/Information Technology Department, responsible for planning, development and implementation of Web-based applications and interfaces for content management and e-publishing systems, with emphasis on local software development, integration and configuration of open source content management software and data migration tasks to export, transform and import content and metadata between systems.
100% effort will be devoted to Web development and data transformation projects to support the ULS D-Scribe Digital Publishing Program (http://www.library.pitt.edu/dscribe) and other services. At various times, the incumbent will be expected to perform in the general areas of systems analysis; system design, data transformation, development, and needs assessment, resource planning and allocation, and independent execution of major projects. The incumbent will maintain communication with faculty, staff and students within libraries and throughout the University, with vendors and open source software developers and users worldwide.
Requirements include a B.S. in Computer or Information Science or related field plus a minimum of two years experience with Web development using PHP and PERL programming languages in a LAMP (Linux/Unix, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment OR five years of equivalent work experience. In addition, incumbent must have the flexibility and drive to handle the variety of responsibilities and the demands of currency in this rapidly evolving field. The incumbent may be on call for system support during evening/weekend hours.
Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Computer or Information Science or related field of study or 5 years equivalent work experience with diverse System and Web Development tools in a complex network environment.
- Data transformation techniques involving XML, XSLT, and/or custom programming.
- LAMP environment (Linux/Unix, Apache, MySQL, PHP or Perl).
- Programming or coding in PHP, Perl, HTML, XML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, AJAX
- Experience in developing applications for multiple platforms.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability and desire to learn.
- Software integration tools using published or standard APIs.
- Virtualized environments (VMware, VirtualBox, etc.)
- Developing Web sites and Web based applications.
- Advanced system administration.
- General computer hardware.
Minimum of two years' experience with software development and data transformation in a LAMP environment (Linux/Unix, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl).
