Job Overview:

ByWater Solutions is the global leader in open-source library automation integration and support. Our organization provides highly customized library technology solutions tailored to the needs of each library.

The Aspen Developer is responsible for updating and maintaining BWS-supported products and interacting with various teams to reduce support needs through product improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop features and resolve bugs across BWS-supported Aspen Discovery and related products

• Coding in Perl, PHP, Java, JavaScript/JS Frameworks, SQL

• Assist team members, developers, interns, and support staff

• Participate in the open-source communities of BWS-supported projects

• Communicate with partners to resolve issues promptly and document within a ticketing system

• ~5% Travel required

• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Software development experience with a portfolio of contributions

• Demonstrated ability to develop using one or more of the following (or equivalent):

  • Perl/PHP/Python

  • Java

  • Javascript

  • Vue/React/React Native

• Experience in developing using SQL

• Ability to work independently and also collaboratively across departments

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Willingness to accept constructive criticism and openness to requirements from the open-source community

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience coding discovery tools

• Experience with unit testing and integration testing

• Experience with Lucene-based search engines such as SOLR and Elasticsearch

• Experience with containerization

• Demonstrated knowledge of library operations

• Experience with BWS-supported products (Aspen, Koha, Libki, Metabase, et al.)
