The Information Technology Manager oversees the small but dynamic Information Technology Department that manages and maintains the Athenæum’s computers, networks, servers, and cloud-based systems.The Director of Information Technology also keeps abreast of new technologies and implements those to ensure better and more secure systems.Reporting to the Director of Business Operations & Augusta Thomas Director of Finance, this is a full-time role with excellent benefits and a salary commensurate with experience. Responsibilities Include:
Manage the Information Technology Department. Supervise and train two IT employee(s) including a Systems Administrator and an AV Technician.
Ensures that the department provides a high quality level of service to the institution.
Oversees IT projects, RFPs, vendor relationships, purchases, contracts, and budgets.
Purchases, configures, and replaces equipment and manages day to day oversight and patching.
Leads cross-departmental implementation, maintenance, and user experience enhancements of all library systems.
Identifies and recommends technology updates to support the Athenæum’s IT operations as the technological environment evolves.
Actively manages the servers and network equipment used by the Boston Athenæum.
Proactively monitors and assesses all systems on a regular basis.
Oversees the Spiceworks Cloud Helpdesk, assigning tickets and ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner. Also acts as the final escalation point.
Provides specialized system support and maintenance to systems including but not limited to Voyager library catalog, EZproxy, Atlas Aeon, CollectionSpace, CONTENTdm, Amag Symmetry, exacqVision, Wordpress, and Salesforce.
Provides computer support and training to staff.
Documents procedures for the computer system.
Ensure all activities of the IT department are aligned with and in support of the mission of the Boston Athenaeum.
Work in partnership with colleagues across departments to achieve organizational goals.
Plans and develops systems security protocols.
Develops, implements, and tests disaster recovery procedures on an annual basis.
Acts as AV support backup on rare occasions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree.
Seven or more years of professional experience in computer support.
Strong customer service skills.
Supervisory experience.
In-depth knowledge of Windows desktop and server operating systems as well as Linux (Red Hat or CentOS preferred).
Advanced PC and server troubleshooting and repairing skills (both hardware and software).
Knowledge of managed network switches and routers.
Experience with Google Workspace administration.
Comfortable writing Windows batch scripts and Unix/Linux shell scripts.
Familiarity with virtualization, preferably XCP-ng (or Xen equivalent).
Experience administering a MS365 tenant, including SSO, MFA, compliance policies, and MS Defender for Endpoint.
Project and vendor management experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Our library is migrating from Voyager ILS to Folio ILS. Experience with either ILS or an ILS migration is preferred
Experience with Dell servers and HPE Aruba switches.
Demonstrated experience with databases (MS Access, MySQL, Oracle).
Experience with CONTENTdm or other DAM solutions, as well as collection management software.
Proficiency with website management and development.
Experience with Salesforce.
