Reporting to the Head of Library Systems and Applications, the User Interface/User Engagement Web Developer (UI/UX) ensures the smooth, reliable operation of the Libraries’ user-facing discovery interfaces and helps the Libraries plan for future search and discovery needs. The successful candidate will leverage strong knowledge of Drupal development and programming languages for user interface customization, alongside skills in user experience and user-driven design to create meaningful, timely, and engaging interfaces, discovery tools, and user experiences. The person works closely with a broad section of Libraries’ staff to ensure that the Libraries’ user-facing discovery interfaces are technically optimized and comply with modern user expectations including ease of use, accessibility and usability standards. The person creates and maintains UI/UX design and analysis tools including storyboards, user personas, technical process diagrams, and site maps to assist the Libraries in developing a holistic view and future roadmap of user discovery services.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical development and design of the Libraries’ primary discovery interfaces including the Libraries’ website, Primo VE, ArchivesSpace PUI, and related user-facing web content management systems.
  • Coordinate changes and updates to the Libraries’ user-facing discovery platforms to ensure adherence to established standards for usability, accessibility, style guidelines, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Provide support, training, and documentation for staff on the standard use and best practices of the libraries’ website, discovery platforms, and web content management system.
  • Keep up-to-date with initiatives, projects and issues in the Libraries’ instruction and public services areas, as well as with technical innovations in discovery platforms and CMS systems.
  • Collaborate with systems colleagues, instruction and public services staff to implement new discovery services and support other libraries’ web-based user initiatives.
  • Work with staff and users to continually assess the usability, usage data , and impact of the libraries’ discovery services and related content.

Requirements
 

  • Experience coordinating/leading UI/UX design projects in a collaborative environment.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience working in an academic library preferred.
  • Experience in HTML/CSS and/or Web Content Management Systems.
  • Experience in Drupal.
  • Experience in JavaScript/PHP/Python/Ruby preferred.
  • MLS from an ALA accredited school preferred or relevant experience 

Title and salary will depend on person's experience.  Senior title is someone with 5+ years of experience.
