ITS at New York University is seeking an Information Technology Specialist for the Academic Technology Services Department that will advise and consult with faculty, staff, and students in the design, development and implementation of electronic services for the NYU information space, particularly the NYU web and administrative systems for NYU intranet; provide guidance, analyze feasibility of requests, and write applicable Web-based programs. S/he will analyze Information Technology Service's (ITS) need for administrative systems and databases; work with all ITS groups in gathering information and assessing technical needs as well as make recommendations for the purchase, customization and development of hardware and software applications. The hired candidate will develop Programs in support of ITS and other information services activities of the eServices department; work with staff to ascertain need for and level of programming required and advise on the purchase of off-the-shelf software/programs. Initial work will be on a social networking application and R&D work on a university-wide research portal. This position reports to the Director, Academic Technology Services.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is NYU's central organization for technology-based services for University faculty, students, staff, and administrators. ITS provides computer, network, telephony and Internet services to the entire University. ITS comprises the Office of the Chief Information Technology Officer and five service departments working together in support of the broad spectrum of University activities.
Qualifications The qualified candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' relevant experience with advanced network application development and systems integration or equivalent combination. Must include experience with Apache Web Server. Preferred: Experience building LAMP, Web 2.0, and /or AJAX applications. Advanced knowledge of software development, telecommunications systems and high level knowledge of UNIX, SQL, XML,TCP/IP networks, and programming languages (JAVA, Perl, PHP, Ruby) are vital to this role.
