Remote Work: Digital Repository Developer (Fedora/Islandora)

Description

Black Lunch Table is searching for a Digital Repository Developer. The work includes deploying a brand new instance of Islandora Digital Asset Management System, integrating Islandora with our existing front-end application (that includes a custom audio player and search engine), testing and scaling, working with AWS services, REST API, AuraD/Neo4j, and other data management scripting depending on interest.

Our top priority is to find a developer with demonstrated experience in backend development for digital multimedia archives who believes in the BLT mission. The Digital Repository Developer will be one of three individuals on the development team, so their perspective and working style will have a large influence on our systems architecture moving forward. The developer in this position will be responsible for working remotely with a high degree of independence and will be asked to join weekly meetings with the Digital Technology Manager and Web Developer.

DESIRED SKILLS:
Demonstrated experience with Islandora Digital Asset Management System

Experience with Apache, PHP, and MySQL/PostgreSQL, javascript, JSON, and Python scripts (we process data and transcripts in Python)

Experience with Git best practices in team environments with special attention to ethical practices of authorship and citation

Good command of written communication with experience writing clear and intentional documentation that is inclusive of a wide variety of readers including non-development team leadership

Experience with AWS and Drupal

Familiarity with library and information science concepts and tools like metadata, Linked Data, and OpenRefine

Familiarity with indexing for search, specifically we use Algolia

This is a remote, deliverables-based contract position. Compensation for this contract position is based upon experience with a range of $6,500-$8,000. Start date is late January. Position is open until filled. For best consideration, submit application materials by January 19, 2024.
