Digital Records Archivist
Description
The digital records archivist is responsible for the management, organization, and preservation of the born-digital records of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association (MVLA) and George Washington’s Mount Vernon. This is a new position, created to gain control over the significant amount of born-digital records generated by Mount Vernon staff and to preserve these records in tandem with the analog material already housed in the archives of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. Reporting to the Technical Services Librarian, the incumbent will create policies for born-digital records management and preservation across the estate, working with all departments to establish a records retention schedule. The digital records archivist will play a key role in facilitating a new, estate-wide document management system and provide guidance or assistance with file storage management, file naming conventions, and record retrieval and preservation. A long-term goal for the position is implementing a digital archives program to coordinate the transfer, ingest, arrangement and description of all the MVLA’s historic, born-digital records. Working closely with IT and library colleagues, the digital records archivist must have comprehensive knowledge of archival best practices, as well as technical expertise to effectively manage a large born-digital records repository.
The position is exempt status and will report to the Technical Services Librarian. Salary range starts at $70,000. Application review will start in mid-December.
