At our unit „Academic Services“, we are looking for a

Software Architect (F/M/DIV)
for the development and integration of automation solutions in productive systems for the extraction and analysis of metadata from textual resources

The position is located in Hamburg or Kiel (depending on the applicant’s preferences), Germany, and will start as soon as possible. This is a full-time position (currently 38.7 hours per week), part-time work is possible to a certain extent. We offer a contract that is initially fixed to a period of 5 years in accordance with § 14 Absatz 1 Teilzeit- und Befristungsgesetz (TzBfG), with remuneration based on the public sector pay scale at grade EG 13 TV-L.

Your tasks …

  • to transfer prototypical machine learning solutions for the automation of extracting and analyzing metadata from literature resources (metadata mining) into productive services
  • to develop and improve a suitable software architecture for the integration of these services in a modular system including storage and administration of corresponding data objects and interfacing with the other metadata systems at ZBW
  • to administrate, monitor and update this system
  • to document, version and publish the software developed in the process as open software in git-based environments in order to ensure reusability (within the possibilities of licensing)
  • optionally to conduct simple experiments in order to evaluate existing machine learning solutions for the extraction of metadata from textual material (language recognition, OCR, recognition of document structure, named entity recognition, etc.)

Your profile …

… essential qualifications / skills – you have:

  • Master or diploma in computer science, information technology, or in a related technical field with a strong orientation towards software development
  • high proficiency in Python and corresponding development platforms and software libraries
  • experience with the current methods of collaborative software development such as automated tests, code reviews and continuous integration, git-based sourcecode development
  • knowledge of software deployment via container technologies, especially Kubernetes (or proof of the ability to acquire that knowledge quickly, such as experience in deployment via Docker)
  • proficient use of the command line, knowledge of Linux-based systems
  • good command of written and spoken English (team language is English)

… desirable – you have:

  • experience in the administration of backend systems
  • good command of written and spoken German
  • strong communication skills and willingness to work together with stakeholders closely and to cater to their needs and working culture
  • interdisciplinary and intercultural competence
