Description

The Research Data and Digital Scholarship (RDDS) team at University of Pennsylvania Libraries seeks a collaborative and proactive Mapping and Geospatial Project Specialist to provide (a) project and classroom support to Penn faculty whose research and scholarship involves creating, using, and visualizing geospatial data and (b) training for students in geospatial methods, tools, and technologies, and in critical geospatial approaches. RDDS, whose expertise spans text and data mining; public scholarship; digital humanities; digital cultural heritage; qualitative and quantitative data analysis; data visualization; open science, and GIS, facilitates data-driven and data-literate research and scholarship and fosters critical and ethical data communities of practice across the disciplines at Penn. All Research Data and Digital Scholarship team members are expected and encouraged to dedicate one half-day a week to collaborative, creative, research, or professional development activities.The RDDS team values collaboration, transparency, equity, openness, and accessibility in their work and is looking for a colleague who shares their commitment to an inclusive, ethical, anti-racist praxis.

This is a two year term position.

Duties:

The Mapping and Geospatial Project Specialist will work closely with The Research Data and Digital Scholarship (RDDS) team at University of Pennsylvania Libraries and will be responsible for:

  • Provide GIS, mapping, geospatial data visualization support to faculty across the disciplines, including faculty working on digital humanities and digital scholarship projects.
  • Provide in-class and on-demand instruction in GIS and mapping, including critical GIS.
  • Plan and implement outreach to graduate students and faculty in geospatial-adjacent departments and center.
  • Work with the Mapping and Geospatial Librarian to nurture a nascent interdisciplinary geospatial community on campus.
