Job Summary/Basic Function
Provides leadership, direction, and management for Library Technology in the James E. Walker Library. This position is vital in contributing to the library’s strategic priorities through the development and implementation of innovative enterprise and educational technology that advances the delivery of services and support to the MTSU community. It explores emerging technologies relevant to accomplishing the library and university mission of experiential and continuous learning. Directly supervises three full-time personnel and oversees management of four additional full-time personnel and a team of 45+ student employees. Clearly communicates expectations, completes evaluations, and guides performance, professional development, and training for the department. Responsible for the selection, design, and implementation of the library’s extensive and complex public and staff computing environments as well as the MakerSpace. Develops and monitors the Library Technology department budget; assures effective desktop support for staff and public end users. Actively engages and contributes to the Library’s Leadership Team. Facilitates communication of library technology priorities with campus technology committees and other campus IT units. Applies effective project management and problem-solving strategies to accomplish the work of the department. Responsible for determining library server and storage requirements, technology disaster recovery strategies as well as privacy and security measures that align with MTSU policy.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, information science/systems/technology or a related field.
Required Related Experience
Bachelor’s degree with eight (8) years in IT management and three (3) years supervision or master’s degree or higher with five (5) years in IT management and three (3) years supervision.
Desirable Related Experience
Prior experience managing technology in a complex higher education organization preferred. Prior experience in an academic library preferred. Knowledge or experience with open-source projects and/or tools.
