Description
The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Head, Information Technology. The Information Technology (IT) department includes 18 staff across three units: AV Technologies; Technology Services; and Enterprise Operations. The IT Department provides a range of technologies to meet the needs of the Libraries’ diverse constituencies, ensuring smooth development and delivery of established and emerging services. Department staff oversee AV design, installation, and support for the Libraries’ immersive high-technology spaces and collaborative spaces; investigate and recommend emerging technologies; purchase, install, and maintain hardware and software to serve staff and patron computing needs; and maintain the Libraries’ enterprise computing infrastructure, including server room management and systems administration.
The Department Head plays a leadership role in defining technology requirements for library‐wide initiatives and developing infrastructure to support the Libraries’ ambitious technology agenda, ensuring the Libraries’ success today and in the future. The Libraries supports flexible work arrangements, with the expectation that this position will work onsite the majority of the time. Reports to the Associate Director for Digital & Organizational Strategy.
Responsibilities
Leads a service-oriented program that builds, supports, and extends information technology solutions for the Libraries.
Manages the department, including strategy, planning, policy, and personnel matters.
Fosters the professional development of staff to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment.
Oversees IT-managed budgets, IT procurement, and inventory.
Collaborates with library and campus units, faculty, and students to design and implement IT solutions that will shape the future of the university’s information environment.
Guides the design and architecture of library infrastructure; ensures effective, sustainable operation of information systems and infrastructure.
Provides leadership in coordinating and defining technology requirements for library-wide projects and initiatives.
Participates in library planning and policy-making; serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams, including Management Council.
Represents the Libraries in the university Campus IT Directors community and on collaborative technology and security initiatives across the university.
This position is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.
Minimum salary: $115,000 annually. Review of applications is underway; position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. The Libraries will be flexible during this time and will conduct most or all of this search remotely.
