Position Summary
The Library Development Group seeks an energetic, well-organized, and team-oriented individual with experience developing large scale web applications. This position helps to design, develop, and document web applications for the MSU Libraries. The candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for agile practices as well as experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders. Primary focus will be developing production quality code and testing for the FOLIO <https://www.folio.org/> open source platform.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization; excellent communications skills and ability to work well in teams; two to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; experience in developing accessible web applications (both client-side and server-side); strong experience developing Java and Javascript applications using frameworks such as Vert.x, NodeJS, or React; familiarity with developing automation and containerization solutions using tools such as Jenkins, Docker and Ansible; experience with contributing to open source applications; experience with version control tools such as Git; demonstrated understanding of relational database schemas and writing SQL queries; experience working on agile development teams; willingness to continually advance technical skills through self-study; ability to take ownership of a project and see it through to completion.
