Description
The librarian will lead the Libraries' effort to enhance its virtual spaces, across all devices used to access services. The Web Services Librarian will provide leadership in ongoing efforts to define the goals of the Libraries' virtual presence and to provide online services that match these goals. This tenure track position is based in the Systems Department.The librarian will provide leadership in the integration and management of an array of information and discovery services. The WSU Libraries are on the glide path to moving to a management system shared with the other 36 institutions of the regional Orbis Cascade Alliance. As a result, the Libraries will increasingly address online discovery and fulfillment services in a consortium context.
Position Details: Web Services & Content Management:
- Management and assessment of the overall online presence for the WSU Libraries
- With the support of an Information Technology Specialist, manage the currently deployed content management system, coordinating enhancements and upgrades for the Drupal instance
- Maintain and customize vendor-hosted digital products such as LibGuides and LibAnswers
- Provide technical support and training to staff and patrons in use of the WSU Libraries' web presence and coordinating technologies
- Recommend and deploy an agreed upon vision and environment for the WSU Libraries web presence
- Support the creation and hosting of multimedia technologies for web use
- May provide reference services during the day, evenings and weekends on a rotating basis
- Provide support for both commercial and open source software as needed to support online services and to provide additional technology support in the Systems unit; this could include support for the Ex Libris SFX OpenURL resolver
- Participate in appropriate scholarship, faculty governance, and service as a library faculty member
- Engage in library-wide initiatives as appropriate
- Maintain current awareness of web and digital content technologies and actively participates in appropriate meetings and organizations
Minimum/Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree from an ALA-Accredited Library and Information Studies program
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational, problem-solving, and planning skills
- Project management experience
- Demonstrated programming or scripting experience with one or more languages used for web and mobile development
- Demonstrated experience with XHTML and CSS
- Design experience with web sites and/or mobile applications
- Experience with Content Management Systems
- Experience with social networking applications
- Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues
