Description

The Coordinator of Acquisition and Discovery Services manages the acquisition, cataloging and physical processing of library resources and works collaboratively with the Coordinator of Digital Access and Metadata who is responsible for metadata strategies for and cataloging of digital materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for the effective acquisition and discovery of library resources
  • Provide leadership in the management of acquisitions, and cataloging, including setting policy, establishing workflows and work assignments, setting priorities and developing and documenting procedures
  • Hire, train, coordinate, and direct the work of department staff
  • Monitor and evaluate trends related to resource acquisition, description, discovery and access
  • Recommend and implement new initiatives
  • Foster a collegial work environment
  • Develop assessment strategies and maintain statistics for department activities
  • Contribute to and learns from the profession through local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • Experience supervising full time staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in acquisitions, cataloging standards, issues, trends and best practices
  • Experience using bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems
  • Ability and willingness to work with colleagues in collaborative and team environments
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Commitment to professional development

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with non-MARC metadata standards (i.e. MODS, Dublin Core, EAD)
  • Experience with planning and implementing new services

Appointment will be made at the Associate Librarian or Librarian rank.
