Research Data Curator
Description
Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a self-motivated individual to establish a robust research data management program at the University. Reporting to the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, the Research Data Curator plays a central role in developing services and policies in support of Mines research enterprise. The position will work closely with library, information technology, and other administrative staff to develop and implement a campus-wide data management plan. This position will work 20 hours per week.
Required is a Master’s degree by date of appointment in science, information science, or related data-intensive discipline, or a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program. Experience must include:
- An understanding of the research process as demonstrated by academic or work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to data curation and management
- Familiarity with current scientific data and metadata conventions
- Familiarity with federal funding requirements for data management
- Demonstrated experience working collegially with faculty, staff and students
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong service orientation, technical skills and problem-solving abilities
of the following:
- Experience with commonly used data repository platforms (DSpace, Fedora, DigiTool)
- Experience with metadata scripting languages (Java, Python, PHP)
- Experience working with relevant metadata standards (e.g. DC, DDI, FGDC, ISO, SMDX) as well as preservation standards and best practices
