Description

Note: this position does not require an MLS.

The Iowa State University Library is seeking a dynamic and forward thinking visionary who can design and launch a new digital scholarship services unit for the ISU campus and lead the Digital Scholarship and Initiatives (DSI) department.

Candidates for the newly created Head of Digital Scholarship and Initiatives (Librarian III or IV) must have a strong desire to collaborate with faculty to develop digital scholarship projects and support services, and introduce digital scholarship to students by integrating concepts into the curriculum and instructing students. The successful candidate has the opportunity to build a program from the ground up starting with environmental scans of the campus, needs assessment, cultivating partnerships, providing vision and direction, promoting the new program, and hiring and empowering staff.

In addition to developing and managing a new digital scholarship program, the Head of Digital Scholarship and Initiatives oversees the functions and services of the already established Digital Repository and Digital Initiatives units. Evaluates and coaches staff to achieve excellence in their professional responsibilities, and mentors for promotion and career development. The Head provides direction and vision for DSI, develops strategic planning, and provides the support for staff and programs to flourish. Establishes connections between the library and faculty, students, and staff engaging in digital scholarship, and works with relevant units across the library and campus to grow digital scholarship capacity and expertise. Continuously assesses and evaluates programs, services, policies, and processes of the department. Works collaboratively with other library units and administration to meet the goals of the library, and on grants, development efforts, and public engagement. Participates in the divisional management team, and library-wide planning and discussions; serves on library and university committees.

ISU students, staff, and faculty strive to overcome historical and divisive biases in our society.  Library staff must embrace an environment of inclusion that moves beyond simple tolerance to recognizing the richness in individual identities of people, and diverse perspectives.
