The Indiana University Libraries Bloomington (IUB) are seeking an innovative, collaborative, and adaptable professional to head a new Library Applications department within the Library Technologies division. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Library Technologies and working in close collaboration with other Libraries and University Information Technology Services (UITS) departments, the Head, Library Applications will provide dynamic leadership and vision for the development, implementation, and operation of a portfolio of systems supporting library functions both on the Bloomington campus and within the Indiana University multi-campus system. These systems include the library management system, discovery platforms, inter-library loan systems, special collections workflow systems, assessment/decision support systems, and web content management systems. The ideal candidate will be an engaged leader who can inspire innovation in a team of IT professionals, as well as librarians and staff across a major academic research library, to improve work processes and patron service through the development and implementation of information technology.

This position will manage and direct the work of technical staff who develop and support several key systems for Library operations. The Head, Library Applications will also serve as Product Owner for the Library management system and will work across departments in the libraries (both at Bloomington and at other IU campuses) and UITS to coordinate support and development of software systems and functionality for library operations.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, informatics, or related field and five years of experience in development and/or managing the technical implementation of complex software systems, including three years of experience in a lead role and two years of experience in managing technical teams.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Familiarity with modern library services platforms/systems and/or library discovery platforms. Ability to work independently and apply knowledge to identify solutions for new and varied problems. Working understanding of library data formats and standards, including MARC as well as XML- and RDF-based metadata schemes. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with all levels of staff across multiple campuses. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, and stay current with technical developments. Demonstrated experience and ability in project management. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in library science, information science, or other relevant discipline.
