Who we are…..RAILS is one of two multi-type regional library systems in the state that serve and partner with academic, public, school, and special libraries. We are headquartered in Burr Ridge, IL and have service centers in Bolingbrook, Coal Valley, East Peoria, and Rockford which serve a 27,000 square mile area in northern and western Illinois. RAILS employees staff the PrairieCat operation. PrairieCat is an organization of over 130 libraries in northern Illinois that provide over 684,000 people with library services.
Who we seek……
We are seeking a strong leader who is versatile and can be a good team player to help us provide great service to member libraries, their patrons and students. We need someone who can lead a team of three technologists to provide ongoing support and advice to organizations with sometimes limited resources. The System Supervisor is responsible for oversight of the operation of all LLSAP (Local Library System Automation Program/ PrairieCat Library Consortium) hardware, software, reporting, telecommunications, and network infrastructure. This position works closely with staff and members to ensure effective support and continuity of LLSAP services. The System Supervisor reports to the PrairieCat Manager and has a choice of being based out or either our Bolingbrook, Burr Ridge, or Coal Valley service center.
The person who fills this role will need to have an excellent customer support ethic and the ability to engage with our member libraries in an advisory role. This individual will keep abreast of innovations in the information technology field and know how best to apply those innovations to a service organization. Strong Windows server skills, Linux and MSSQL/MYSQL experience is a must!
If you have the following qualifications please read on.
• BA/BS in a related field required; computer science-related masters’ or IT certifications preferred
• Minimum 3 years in library technology and experience with integrated library systems preferred
• Experience with telecommunications infrastructure planning and maintenance
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining Windows and Linux environments and operating systems
• Experience with PC hardware and software installation, deployment and maintenance, including disc imaging and remote maintenance tools
• Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving record for occasional travel
