Southern Methodist University, a nationally ranked research university located in the vibrant, arts-friendly city of Dallas, TX, is seeking an experienced librarian to expand the SMU Digital Repository, an online platform for publishing and providing long-term access to the scholarly and creative work of the SMU community.  The position will join a dedicated and motivated team that organizes, manages, preserves, and presents digital collections and the scholarly and creative activity of the faculty and students.

The Digital Repository Librarian manages the administrative duties related to the bepress open access digital repository platform for publishing the scholarly research and creative achievement of the SMU community.  The position works with the SMU faculty, staff, students, and with centers and interdisciplinary programs seeking to create and disseminate work through the Repository.  Working in collaboration with campus stakeholders, the Digital Repository Librarian develops and maintains the infrastructure for ingesting SMU Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs).  The Librarian chairs the Digital Repository Committee.

Essential Functions:

Lead the planning, development, and supervision of the institutional repository; adopt best practices to create and modify policies and procedures related to the ingest of SMU scholarly and creative work into the repository, including SMU ETDs, journals, and new modes of scholarly communication; chair the Digital Repository Committee.

Build relationships with faculty, students, programs, centers, and labs to promote awareness and increase participation;

Create an education program for subject liaisons to promote the digital repository to all campus units;

Support SMU research communities through education about proper protocol for uploading research assets; direct the marketing of the repository.

Participate in efforts toward greater coordination among staff involved in digital collection development and digital media, Digital Humanities, research data management services, and digital preservation.
