Description

AUT University,
Auckland, New Zealand

UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN
  • Exceptional opportunity for an experienced, collaborative and articulate Library leader
  • Expansive Library spaces, stable management and modern technologies
  • Join New Zealand's fastest growing University in the City of Sails

Auckland is a truly international, cosmopolitan city offering an impressive lifestyle choice. It has established itself as a city of culture, arts and cuisine and is host to many major events, world class concerts and festivals. Surrounded by beautiful beaches and coastline only a short drive from the CBD, Auckland offers an exceptional quality of life.

With our campus footprints across four diverse Auckland locations, AUT is the newest and second largest University in New Zealand. It is a contemporary, connected and relevant study destination with more than 28,000 students and over 2,500 staff and is focused on providing outstanding student learning experiences and graduate success based on innovative teaching and research. This supports a dynamic learning environment by encouraging students to collaborate, experiment and experience working life outside the classroom.

AUT's Library has quickly evolved into a contemporary Library with a modern infrastructure, leading the way in its adaptation to technology changes. Its engaging physical infrastructure is supported by strong e-resources and the Library has been instrumental in the provision of outstanding integrated services for teaching, learning and research. AUT's Library of the future will be part of a true student hub, engaging closely with Student Services, ICT and faculties - AUT students are mobile outside the library's physical boundaries as we follow a changing, state of the art environment.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, this highly visible and pivotal role is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of the Library. The University Librarian provides advice, direction and initiative in information management whilst managing the human and budgeting resources of the Library to ensure its promotion as AUT's centre for learning and research.

There is an excellent managerial platform in place from which to continue to develop the Library's contributions to both AUT's staff, students and the University's research performance over the next five years. Key challenges will be to keep ahead of this changing environment and continue to improve access for staff and students.

This is a key leadership appointment and has three direct reports, whilst overseeing a total of 69 FTE Library staff. An agile and engaged team awaits the ideal candidate, who will be an articulate, visible leader and possess substantial experience managing staff in a Library environment. A leader with humility who embraces the team and its dynamics, placing the utmost value on staff engagement and collaboration is essential. They must be able to easily communicate the Library's story and its changing role in the University, whilst understanding the global view of libraries and technology with a vision of where this is going and what AUT needs to do in this relationship.

This is a superb opportunity to take a stable, well-functioning and well-managed entity forward into an ever changing Library environment at a dynamic, driven organisation working with a committed team. Visit www.aut.ac.nz or further information about AUT.

Applications close Sunday, September 27th 2015.
