Adelphi University seeks an innovative and strategic leader for the position of Associate Dean for Digital Initiatives and Automated Services.
Brief Description
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Dean for Digital Initiatives and Automated Services provides leadership and administrative responsibility for digital initiatives, systems operations, instructional media services, and interlibrary loan/document delivery & periodicals maintenance. As a member of the Libraries’ senior administrative team, the incumbent participates in a wide range of administrative activities and works closely with the Associate Dean for Public and Administrative Services in budgeting, personnel, and other administrative areas. Works with library deans, faculty and staff to define needs, set priorities, budget, implement, manage, and assess digital and systems initiatives. In a collaborative environment, supervises four full time staff, including the Library Systems Administrator, the Library Information Technology Specialist, Senior Instructional Media Services Specialist, and the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery manager. Assist the Dean with a variety of library-wide projects as assigned. Serve on University and Library committees. Remains current with emerging technologies in higher education and academic librarianship through active participation in professional associations and activities.
Responsibilities and Duties
Library Systems, Web, and Digital Projects
Supervise systems personnel in implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of software and hardware platforms in support of library functions including the Innovative Interfaces library management system, the ContentDM digital library, the Illiad resource sharing system, and the EzProxy remote access server. Act as the backup systems administrator. Collaborate with library faculty, staff, and the Office of Information Technology (OITR) in the planning and implementation of digital initiatives, web applications, hardware selection and evaluation. Maintain effective liaison with OITR, the Faculty Center for Professional Excellence (FCPE), and the Associate Provost for Online Learning. Provide leadership and support for integrating library resource discovery and access technologies into distance and online learning. Partner with OITR, FCPE and other AU units to explore emerging technologies supporting digital scholarship, teaching, and learning.
Instructional Media Services
Coordinates the integration of informational and educational technologies, through oversight of the Instructional Media Services, which supports streaming and digital content delivery through a virtual media center (to be planned). Ensures coordination of integration of library materials and services with course management software, provides administrative guidance and support for library website development and usability testing, and educational content development. Supervises the Senior Instructional Media Services Specialist.
Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery & Periodicals Maintenance
Provides overall leadership for the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery and Periodicals maintenance unit. Coordinates integration of automated developments in interlibrary loan, document delivery and periodicals maintenance operations with other units in the library.
Educational/Experience Requirements
Masters degree from an ALA accredited school of library/information science is required. A second post-baccalaureate degree is preferred. Significant, progressive management and supervisory experience of systems and or technical services in an academic library setting. Demonstrated experience with current issues and best practices in the assessment, development, and application of information technologies in libraries and higher education. Familiarity with utilization of information stored in EZproxy logs for assessment of user activity. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work in a collegial environment with shared governance.
