Emerging Technologies Librarian
Description
The Emerging Technologies Librarian supports the exploration, integration and management of new and emerging technologies and the integration and improvement of existing systems and applications to deliver information and services to library users in support of the mission, vision and values of Raynor Memorial Libraries and Marquette University.
Essential Functions
Duties and Responsibilities
• Explore and identify new and emerging technologies in collaboration with Library Technology staff and library departments
• Assist in the implementation of new systems and applications including planning, project management and providing staff training
• Improve the efficiency and integration of existing systems including: MARQCAT integrated library system, Mobile interfaces, devices, and software, Microsoft Access databases, XML or JSON encoded library data structures, library statistical programs and Library SharePoint sites.
• Participate in the implementation of Agile development practices
• Participate in collection development duties and instruction including consulting on data management plans
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
• Minimum 2 years related experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of operations, services, key issues and trends in academic libraries
• Experience with library application and systems implementation; understanding of requirements setting and use-case development
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies
• Strong commitment to customer service and support
• Demonstrated experience with one or more metadata manipulation and scripting languages (e.g. XSLT, Java, JavaScript, Python, or PHP)
• Demonstrated experience with the analysis of online interfaces using Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Webmaster Tools
• Experience with Web site creation and maintenance in a CMS environment including Section 508 and WCAG compliance
• Successful project management experience
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and library innovation
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of semantic metadata formats and standards (e.g. SPARQL, RDF, BIBFRAME, schema.org)
• Knowledge of digital repository projects and metadata development and maintenance for local digital collections
• Experience with Integrated Library Systems (III Sierra preferred)
• Experience leveraging library APIs
• Experience with workflow design and automation
• Experience with SharePoint 2013 services and functionality
