Louisiana State University Libraries invites applications for the Data Curation Librarian position.Reporting to the Director of the Institutional Repository (IR), the Data Curation Librarian is responsible for maintaining and managing LSU's IR for both research data and scholarly works. The Data Curation librarian will be responsible for setting up "virtual research environments," or the equivalent, as needed by externally funded research projects using the Islandora framework. This position will manage the Electronic Theses and Dissertations workflows and will work in collaboration with the Graduate School in these efforts. The Data Curation librarian will also provide technical assistance to all digital initiative projects using the IR software.
65% Institutional Repository: Maintains and manages LSU's Institutional Repository (IR) for both research data and scholarly works, including Electronic Theses and Dissertations; Provides technical support for other digital initiatives and projects using the IR software; Works with Metadata librarian on all issues related to appropriate metadata, including the
following: works to employ linked data strategies; explores semantic approaches and ontologies while working on initiatives related to the discovery of digital resources.
15% Research/Scholarship and Service: Works to fulfill requirements for tenure and promotion or post-tenure scholarship and service.
10% Outreach: Assists Data Management Librarian and Metadata Librarian, as needed, in consulting with researchers across the LSU campus on information organization and access needs related to research data.
10% Development: Pursues innovative discovery techniques as they emerge and adapts them to the local environment. Undertakes planning and tracking to keep abreast of environmental changes (especially evaluation and use of new technologies), projects in various stages of completion, long-term data management aims (e.g. link management), internal process coordination, staff development, etc.
Required qualifications: Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution; to be hired at the Associate Librarian level, seven years of service or related service are required.
Desired qualifications: Other relevant advanced degree. Experience with institutional or subject repository systems; working knowledge of XML; Experience with scripting languages such as Java, Perl, or PHP; experience with metadata issues related to the discovery of academic resources; experience with ontologies in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
