Library & Learning Support at National Louis University (NLU) seeks applications for a Metadata and Systems Librarian with the energy and initiative to provide leadership and effective management for the discovery of the library’s print, electronic, and archival collections. Working in a team environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading library-wide efforts to optimize technologies for information access and discovery. NLU seeks to hire faculty who are flexible, innovative, forward-thinking, and who can respond rapidly to the changing needs of adult, nontraditional, and distance learners in diverse learning environments.

This is a full-time, 12-month Faculty position at the Instructor level beginning as soon as possible. This position will be based at NLU’s North Shore campus in Skokie, Illinois, and will require travel to Wheeling, Lisle, and Downtown Chicago campus locations.

Reporting to the Dean of Library & Learning Support, the individual will:
  • Catalog bibliographic, electronic, and archival materials by creating and enhancing original metadata to improve the discovery of collections online using appropriate standards, such as MARC, RDA, AACR2, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, and DACS
  • Manage, implement, and provide technical expertise for library software and systems, including the ExLibris Voyager Integrated Library System (ILS), OCLC’s Connexion client, and OCLC’s WorldCat Local discovery tool
  • Maintain bibliographic, holding, and item records in accordance with local and national standards
  • Integrate and upgrade library systems to improve the user experience and proactively researches, recommends, and develops technologically innovative services to match user needs
  • Participate in a public services rotation, including information literacy instruction, reference services, and research consultations with students and faculty
  • Proactively manage technical changes to preempt resource access problems
  • Recommend and facilitate improvements to existing tools and workflows
  • Monitors best practices and trends in emerging technologies in academic libraries
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent and 1-2 years professional experience working in academic libraries
  • Experience with bibliographic, electronic resource, and archival cataloging standards and practices
  • Experience with integrated library systems, digital library technologies, and web-based discovery tools
  • Experience providing library instruction, reference, and public services in an academic library
  • Ability to work independently and in accordance with departmental and university priorities
  • Evidence of knowledge and experience teaching online courses and using technology in teaching
  • Ability to travel to Chicago and suburban campuses as needed
  • Ability to be flexible to changing assignments and priorities
