Head of Information Systems and Library Computing (The Texas Medical Center Library, Texas)The Texas Medical Center (TMC) Library is a major research library serving Texas Medical Center researchers, clinicians and students, including two major medical schools and over 20 member institutions. The Head of Information Systems and Library Computing provides leadership in the development and support of a reliable and secure information systems platform for library service delivery. The position supervises the work of Information Systems professionals responsible for server systems, storage, and library management technologies. In addition, the individual manages data and voice network operations including staff and public computing, application software and telecommunications, as well as specific facility and meeting room systems. DUTIES: Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate all departmental operations Supervise Information Systems and Library Computing staff Manage data and voice network operations including staff and public computing, application software and telecommunications, as well as specific facility, meeting room and materials management systems Provide leadership and expertise in the development and support of innovative information solutions Assess user experience to ensure efficient and effective content discovery and access Purchase, implement, and maintain library management systems and discovery technologies: including federated searching, link resolver, library portal, authentication, mobile delivery applications, library web site, digital repository, and other systems Obtain and analyze statistics, generating reports to improve library systems Coordinate with departments in the Library to maintain software and hardware necessary for the operation of the department Maintain a budget for technology resources, equipment and services using a basic accounting system of recording funds spent and projected expenditures for the department Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience – Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library program and five or more years of computing experience. Experience supervising the work of Information Systems professionals. Experience in the selection, management and troubleshooting of information delivery systems. Demonstrated evidence of successful management of computer systems, projects, and networking. Experience with integrated library systems. Familiarity with programming needed to develop and implement custom processes. Knowledge of the information needs of basic scientists, researchers, clinical practitioners, educators and students. Ability to initiate and complete projects in a timely manner with a strong customer service focus. Strong service philosophy and commitment to collaboration and professional involvement. Demonstrated skill in building relationships and coordinating projects with all levels of library staff. Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
