St. Mary’s University, founded in 1852 by Marianist brothers and priests, is the first institution of higher learning in San Antonio and the oldest Catholic university in Texas and the Southwest. St. Mary’s is a nationally recognized liberal arts institution with a diverse student population of about 4,000 of all faiths and backgrounds. St. Mary’s is home to five schools: Humanities and Social Sciences; Bill Greehey School of Business; Science, Engineering and Technology; Graduate; and the School of Law. St. Mary’s has approximately 70 undergraduate and graduate majors and offers more than 120 degree programs, including doctoral and law programs. The University has received numerous recognitions including the Presidential Award on the annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll and has been included on the Honor Roll every year since its inception. St Mary’s is consistently included on the list of top-tier regional universities in the West for academic reputation by U.S. News and World Report.
The Vice President for Information Technology and Library Services is a newly created position and situated at the core of St. Mary’s aspiration to become one of the finest universities in the Southwest. The Vice President will be a part of the institution’s Executive Council, and will report to the President. In addition, for matters related to academics, the Vice President will work collaboratively with the Provost and serve as an advisory member of the Academic Council. Working closely and collaboratively with senior staff and the range of campus constituencies, the Vice President will develop a strategic plan and roadmap for the future direction of Information Technology and Library Services. The Vice President will oversee the existing information technology/academic technology units and library operations. An initial objective for the Vice President will be to review these functions and set a direction to optimize quality and coordination of services in support of teaching, learning and research.
The successful candidate will have a track record of progressive leadership responsibility in senior IT positions in higher education. Experience managing both Information Technology and Library is highly preferred. The Vice President will be a collaborative leader who communicates effectively and has the ability to engage others, build consensus and deliver results. He/she will have built and led high performing, customer service oriented IT organizations. Significant experience in strategic planning and vision is essential. A bachelor's degree is required and an advanced degree is highly preferred.
