Description: We seek a colleague whose research and teaching interests focus on how records, data, and digital information can be managed, organized, represented, and preserved in ways that meet critical societal and organizational needs.  Contexts might include government, industry, advocacy/service organizations, science, social science and humanities data repositories, and cultural heritage information institutions, among others.

The iSchool at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites creative and forward thinking individuals to apply for a tenured faculty position to lead the new College-wide program in the Curation and Management of Digital Assets.  Individuals with demonstrated leadership and experience in digital curation and/ or archival studies are strongly encouraged to apply.  The candidate selected for this position will direct an interdisciplinary Digital Curation Laboratory sponsored by the iSchool.   Based on extensive leadership and professional experience, the candidate, in collaboration with other University partners, will develop the Laboratory as a venue for bridging educational theory, technological innovation, and the resolution of “real world” data and information problems.

The program in the Curation and Management of Digital Assets is designed to facilitate advanced research in the digital environment and to enhance student educational experience and professional advancement.  Areas of particular professional experience sought in candidates include:

Curation and Management of Digital Assets
Digital Preservation
Archives and Records Management
Uses and Users of Digital Collections

The iSchool enrolls over 500 students in four degree programs: Ph.D., a Master of Library Science (MLS), a Master of Information Management (MIM), and a Master of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Faculty members across these programs teach as well as conduct collaborative research that takes advantage of this interdisciplinary breadth. The iSchool is internationally known for its vibrant programs in archives, records management, and library and information studies.  Members of the faculty hold joint appointments in Business, Education, English, the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, and the Information Policy and Access Center.

This is a 9-month tenure appointment, with opportunities for summer teaching and grant-funded summer research.  Salary and benefits are competitive based upon qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related area; demonstrated research excellence; clear ability to attract external support for research; and evidence of effective and innovative teaching.  Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the application of principles and concepts to practice, together with a commitment to bridging research and practice.
