Research Developer
Description
Summary
The Department of Digital Humanities at King's College London is looking for a highly motivated and technically sophisticated individual to join the research and development team.
The position will principally involve web application development and the implementation of innovative frontend interfaces for two research projects in the department’s portfolio: The Making of Charlemagne’s Europe is bringing together all surviving documentary evidence for the reign of Charlemagne into a unified web-based resource employing semantic web technology in the creation of an ontology (third year of this three-year project); Digitising the Prosopographies of the Roman Republic will be developing a highly structured digital prosopography of people from the Roman Republic that will integrate data from several print-based existing prosopographies (first year of a three-year project). It will support both browser and open-data access, and will also be exploring rich linked data strategies to enable connection to other projects perhaps elsewhere in the world.
Details
The successful candidate for this position will have wide experience collaborating in the design of integrated interfaces for web publication, and in the development of functionally sophisticated public facing web applications. They will be familiar with the modelling of structured data and comfortable developing tools to search, query, retrieve and display them using relational databases, RDF, and related technologies; and in designing, writing and modifying programs and scripts which facilitate content creation.
