DescriptionThe Health Sciences Library (HSL) at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY invites applications for the position of Instructional Support Technician. We seek an innovative and dynamic individual with demonstrated experience and strong project management abilities. This position emphasizes a commitment to the HSL team by engaging in pro-active system improvement and custom development work to meet the current and emerging health information needs of the Upstate Community.
This position reports to the library’s Deputy Director and works closely with the library’s document delivery and course reserve departments. Also, this position will work with other technology support staff from Upstate’s Information Management & Technology and Educational Communications department, and library system vendors.
Responsibilities include administration of the library’s ILLiad and Ares systems; providing back office support for transaction and workflow management; troubleshooting problems with library system and computer hardware and peripherals; performing database queries and data analysis to assess system performance and library service goals; write custom computer scripts and programs to meet the technological needs of the library; install system software, patches, and updates; perform data backup and secure systems; write documentation for systems and train staff on system procedures.

Experience working in a library (especially document delivery.) Knowledge of library systems such as ILLiad, Ares, EZProxy, Aleph, etc. Experience writing Lua scripts. Knowledge of copyright/intellectual property law and guidelines. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, .NET, or MS-SSRS. Knowledge of Pharos or other print management systems. Knowledge of Cascade or other content management systems.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Initial appointment will be at the rank of Instructional Support Technician (SL3.) Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications. Excellent benefits package includes TIAA-CREF and other retirement options. Position is open until filled.
