The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources oversees the Library's visual digital collections including development, maintenance, enhancement, and marketing, and is a member of the library's public service team, which assists the campus community with a variety of library services.The core function of this position is Digital Resources. The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources is responsible for the analog-to-digital conversion of materials (including monographs, newspapers, images, videos, audio, and microfilm) and making digital files ADA compliant and accessible online to users through the Library's digital collections, including but not limited to the Institutional Repository, Library Website, Flickr, and other subject-specific digital collections. The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resource will also work closely with the Cataloging Librarian in the creation of controlled vocabularies for each collection and utilizing the identified controlled vocabulary in the creation of metadata. The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resoures should have working knowledge of controlled vocabulary, metadata, and digitization standards and the ability to interpret and apply them.
The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources has thorough knowledge of all aspects of the Library's digital collections, oversees their organization, maintenance and expansion, and leads work flow in the area by establishing priorities and and organizing work flow. The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources collaborates with the University Archivist, other University departments, and the local community to digitize, assign metadata, and upload archival materials to the Library's digital collections, including but not limited to the Institutional Repository, Library Website, Flickr, and other subject-specific digital collections.
The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources is responsible for hiring, training, and directing the work of student assistants to effectively utilize equipment and software to assist with the analog-to-digital conversion of materials and making digital files ADA compliant.
The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources provides public service at the circulation desk, including nights and weekends, serves in a cashiering role, as trained by the Cashier's Office, by collecting fees and charging for community cards, and works closely with all library areas on projects as needed that have library wide impact.
The Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources must possess a bachelor's degree, through knowledge of best practices in digitization, controlled vocabulary standards, metadata standards, Voyager or similar integrated library management system, collection arrangement and management, and Library of Congresss call numbers. Must have the ability to work accurately with attention to detail, use discretion in applying rules, regulations and procedures, communicate effectively, multitask, and work cooperatively with others. Must have excellent organizational, training, supervisory, problem solving, and analytical skills. Most importantly, the Library Services Specialist II for Digital Resources must demonstrate a commitment to public service. As a condition of employment, this position may require a background check. The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
