Reporting to the Director of Digital Initiatives and Technologies, who reports to the Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS), the Technology and Engineering Librarian is a tenure track library faculty member, responsible for providing expertise in digital library applications, including web development, and is the subject liaison for the School of Engineering. Subject liaison duties include: teaching information literacy and selecting appropriate information resources in support of the School’s curriculum and research. The Technology and Engineering Librarian collaborates with other subject librarians and participates in achieving departmental and library goals.Primary Responsibilities
Works with the director of the department and in team settings across LIS units to assist in developing and implementing new and enhanced digital library services that emphasize service, performance, sustainability, and usability;
Develops, implements and maintains the Library’s website in collaboration with the LIS Web Committee and others;
Participates in assembling, distributing and analyzing site and digital resource analytics; teaches digital technology for library faculty and staff;
Consults with the Engineering faculty liaisons in collection development activities;
Plans and administers the library resources budget in collaboration with subject librarians and technical services librarians;
Teaches information literacy classes for the School of Engineering;
Creates online teaching modules and digital finding aids;
Delivers reference services at the LIS Information Desk;
Participates in writing grant proposals.
All LIS faculty and staff are responsible for working collaboratively to achieve University and LIS goals and objectives.
Qualifications Required
MLS from an ALA-accredited institution;
Two years of relevant information technology experience;
One year of experience in an academic or special library;
Demonstrated proficiency in website development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP;
Knowledge of current web development standards and cross platform compatibility and accessibility techniques;
Experience using relational database management systems (such as MySQL); demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities and projects concurrently;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Strong commitment to user-centered services and service excellence;
Professional commitment to librarianship and ability to meet LIS and University standards in librarianship, scholarship and professional service in fulfillment of tenure requirements.
Qualifications Preferred
Experience and aptitude in graphic design and in iOS and Android development for mobile devices;
Familiarity with library specific information systems and technologies (such as integrated library systems, digital repositories, OpenURL, etc.);
Academic background in and/or experience working with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline;
Knowledge of print and electronic science and engineering reference resources and those available on the Web;
Evidence of understanding of key issues, ideas, and trends in science and engineering librarianship;
Additional advanced degree.
Terms of Appointment: Assistant or Associate Professor, 12 month continuing contract, tenure-track position. Tenure track positions require excellence/meritorious in librarianship, scholarship, and professional service.
Salary: Negotiable dependent upon credentials and experience, with a minimum salary of $43,000. Excellent fringe benefits.
