DescriptionThe Analyst holds responsibilities in the Digital Preservation and Repository Technologies (DPRT) department in the Data & Technology Division of the University of Minnesota Libraries. The department's mission is to preserve and ensure continuing access to objects under the digital preservation stewardship of the University Libraries. This work is accomplished through the implementation and support of robust high quality discovery, access and preservation systems and applications, achieved in coordination with relevant Data & Technology departments, the Office of Information Technology (OIT), the Minnesota Digital Library (MDL), and other partners and collaborators.
1. Business Process Analysis:
-- Elicits requirements from University and MDL stakeholders using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, unit visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
-- Proactively communicates and collaborates with University and MDL business owners to analyze information needs and functional requirements in order to produce needed reports.
-- Serves as liaison between business units, technology teams and support teams.
-- Develops requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language.
-- Creates and executes needed test plans. Document all outcomes.
2. Project Management:
-- Manages repository and digital preservation projects, including cross-functional projects with partners and collaborators. Manages MDL input process with statewide partners.
-- Manages overall project work within defined time, budget and scope.
-- Manages multiple projects concurrently.
-- Identifies new projects and stakeholders and recommend team members.
-- Achieves operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements.
-- Facilitates the definition of project missions, goals, tasks, and resource requirements; resolve or assist in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; develop methods to monitor project or area progress.
-- Documents business requirements and creates detailed functional specifications.
-- Documents systems functionality.
-- Creates reports for administrative and operational needs.
-- Develops guides and presentations as system user resources.
-- Documents specific requirements and agreements for MDL and statewide partners.
-- Develops and provides training to end users on system processes and functionality.
-- Develops and provides generalized training for digital preservation.
-- Develops and provides customized training for MDL and statewide partners.

-- Bachelor's degree.
-- Two years of work experience in the areas of business or systems process analysis with a related degree. Four years of work experience in the areas of business or systems process analysis with a non-related degree.
--Professional experience with digital preservation, including knowledge of standards and best practices in the field.
-- Strong organizational and project management skills.
-- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work with people from all organizational levels and outside partners.
-- Excellent oral, written and presentation communications skills.
-- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
-- ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library/Information Science, or equivalent combination of an advanced degree with relevant experience.
-- Experience working with information technology professionals.
-- Experience in a cultural heritage organization.
-- Knowledge of metadata standards including PREMIS.
