Head of Library Technology Services
Description
Lead a dynamic and evolving library technology department in an environment of professional collegiality and collaboration. Eastern Illinois University’s Booth Library is seeking a Head of Library Technology Services. This position is a 12-month faculty appointment and will be tenure-track or non-tenure-track depending on qualifications.
Reporting to the Dean of Library Services, the individual will manage the Library Technology Services department, which consists of two IT staff, four public services staff, and student help. Job duties include managing and developing technology resources and applications, supervising staff, scripting and programming for internally developed projects, coordinating the operation of a technology service desk, serving as a liaison to campus technology committees, and other duties as assigned, which may include some service at the reference desk.
QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered for a tenure-track position, an ALA-accredited MLS is required; a second master's degree is preferred and required for assistant professor rank and for tenure. To be considered for a non-tenure-track position, candidates must possess a master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of scripting languages for the development and support of PHP applications and the maintenance of legacy ASP applications. Knowledge of and the ability to provide support for relational database applications using MySQL, MS Access, and Oracle. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of responsibilities. Excellent communication skills. Dedication to public and institutional service.
DESIRED SKILLS: Supervisory experience. Previous work experience in a library environment. Familiarity with Windows, Linux and Macintosh platforms. Interest in open source applications and vendor and social network APIs. Proficiency with additional programming languages.

Starting date: September 1, 2012, negotiable. Review of applications begins July 2, 2012, and continues until campus interviews are scheduled. Salary is negotiable dependent on qualifications, with a minimum annual salary of $57,540 for appointment as a tenure-track assistant professor.
