  Under general direction of the Associate University Librarian, the Head of Access Services has full supervisory responsibilities for the daily operations of the Access Services department and the library's technology check out desk, the Poly Connect Lab. This position is responsible and accountable for: supervision, motivation, direction of department staff and student assistants; fostering a customer service ethic in an high volume, fast paced environment; establishing work schedules to ensure coverage for day, evening and night shifts; managing the department budget; gathering and working with library management to analyze statistical reports and department metrics; developing strategies and implementation plans; setting goals and objectives in consultation with the Associate University Librarian; establishing standards and service levels; and recommending,
A Bachelor's degree is required with at least four years of direct supervisory/management experience in a library operation. (A graduate degree in library sciences or a related field may be substituted for two years of direct supervisory/management experience in a library operation.)
Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills 
* Comprehensive knowledge of effective personnel management practices and supervisory skills, including motivation, training, professional development, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline, with the demonstrated ability to effectively model appropriate professional behavior.
*Demonstrated ability to lead and communicate in an effective and dependable manner, as well as establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and direct reports, as well as patrons such as students, staff, faculty and co-workers. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage diverse teams with varying skill levels.
*Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality/standards of work, leadership, ethics, commitment, and professional responsibility and judgment. Ability to represent the university and its interests in a professional and conscientious manner.
*Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of a wide range of effective library practices including but not limited to integrated library systems and other library technologies, course reserves, circulation practices, and metrics.
*Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, sound judgment, diplomacy and discretion in appropriately handling confidential information and data, interpreting and applying rules, regulations, policies and procedures and/or recommending new policies and procedures.
*Ability to work independently with little instruction; take initiative, anticipate problems, and solve issues in a timely manner. Ability to provide solutions that are imaginative, thorough, and practical.
*Demonstrated ability to create new policies and procedures to meet operational needs and requirements, and ensure effective department operations. Ability to analyze and improve new processes.
*Demonstrated analytical, reasoning, and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze information and data from a variety of sources, present information and recommend solutions.
*Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
*Excellent time-management, planning, and organizational skills and ability to multi-task, while attending to detail, and meet the demands of multiple deadlines. Ability to adapt to organizational, procedural, policy, and technological changes.
*Demonstrated ability to maintain records, budgets and financial records.
*Experience gathering data and communicating trends to a variety of constituents. Experience identifying areas of improvement based on evidence.
Ability to assess opportunities for and integrate technology into work environments to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and communication
*Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
*Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
