Description
The Media Digitization Production Coordinator will, under the supervision of the Manager of the Stanford Media Preservation Lab, support the management and operation of media reformatting labs and will contribute to the creation and provision of access to digital collections. He/she will contribute to all steps in the production workflow, including materials selection, preparation,metadata creation, quality control and preparation of files for online access and repository preservation. The Production Coordinator will help coordinate the daily operations of media reformatting projects, including data management, troubleshooting, exception handling, and coordination of tasks, working closely with a variety of team members, including but not limited to:
the lab manager, project manager(s), archivists and curators, outside vendors, and fellow production staff. The Production Coordinator will also help maintain project documentation, issue status reports, and track daily progress.
This is a 100% FTE position (40 hours per week) for a fixed term of 36 months, with a possibility of extension.

Primary duties and responsibilities
Coordinate and carry out a range of production activities in a media digitization facility that preserves archival sound recordings and moving images, including

Prepare batches of original archival sound recordings, films, and videotapes to be digitized by digitization staff or outside vendors. (30%). Tasks may include:
- Tracking original items as they move through the production process
- Photographing original artifacts for documentation purpose
- Cleaning and perform basic repairs and treatments on damaged and/or degrading media material
- Use databases or other tools and applications to document aspects of the collection materials handled and activities performed
- Monitor and perform quality control checks on reformatted digital copies of audio recordings and moving images (30%)

Manage original materials, content files, and metadata files in post-digitization workflows. (40%). Tasks include:
- Re-house and prepare sound recordings and moving image materials for long-term storage
- Process and manage large numbers of files in a variety of computing environments
- Create and verify file checksums
- Prepare digital content for ingest to the digital repository
- Create metadata records for materials digitized, including use of MODS, EAD, and other library metadata standards
- Create, edit, and update webpages (using Drupal CMS or other web publishing tools)
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a related field
- At least 1 year experience in an audiovisual archive, an audiovisual production house, or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of historic and contemporary media recording formats and related preservation issues.
- Strong computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, HTML/XML, and collaborative communication tools (e.g., wiki)
- Strong familiarity with media production software applications and hardware systems as well as playback equipment
- Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, discretion, and initiative
- Highly-developed organizational skills, with great attention to detail, and ability to coordinate numerous activities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to lift 30 lbs, and to handle a fully loaded cart.
- Formal training in library and information science, archival practice, and audio or video engineering
- Basic programming skills using Perl, Ruby, XSLT, etc.
- Familiarity with media streaming systems and technologies
