Description

CSU Channel Islands is looking for a "Renaissance Librarian" to be our Systems & Web Development Librarian. Not someone who specializes in resources from or about the Renaissance, but someone who has the capacity to take on whatever opportunity comes their way. Someone who places students at the center of the educational experience for a university that provides undergraduate and graduate education that facilitates learning within and across disciplines through integrative approaches, emphasizes experiential and service learning, and graduates students with multicultural and international perspectives. Someone that is able to provide a vision for library systems and our website, do a little programming, embrace the mundane behind the scenes systems work, lead collaborative projects, and provide friendly and knowledgeable reference desk service and research consultations. Someone who will entertain questions like: what if we got rid of the library catalog; what if we dropped all our index/abstract databases in favor of only full-text, and what might you do to get students more involved in creating a vision for library systems.

The position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and assessment of library systems and website; including the Voyager Integrated Library System, Institutional Repository (Dspace), Metalib, SFX, and RFID System. The position provides visionary leadership in the area of digital services and library systems; gives guidance on how best to incorporate social media, emerging technologies, visual streaming systems to meet student and faculty needs; performs updates and upgrades to systems as necessary while working in close collaboration with faculty, staff, and contracted vendors; and assesses the use of the library's digital collection and library technology with an eye to continuous improvement.
