As the largest university library system in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, the University of Maryland Libraries serve 37,000 students and faculty of the flagship College Park campus. The University of Maryland Libraries share the teaching, learning and research goals of the university. Its role as a key academic resource is evident in its service to the academic community and its actionable strategic plan.
The University of Maryland Libraries is seeking a Digital Librarian to manage the digitization center for textual, photographic, audio, and moving image materials, including the workflows for on-demand requests and longer term projects. The librarian will provide technical guidance and support to staff throughout the Libraries to facilitate both patron-initiated digitization requests and other digitization projects, and works with colleagues in Technical Services on quality control of metadata records that are entered into the digital repository. He/She will be responsible for the maintenance of sophisticated digitization equipment. The librarian will supervise and perform quality control on digital objects. The librarian will manage in-house digitization projects as necessary. The librarian will be expected to remain current with digitization standards and best practices. The librarian will also supervise student digitization technicians.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution in Library Science, or an equivalent degree
- At least two years experience in a library, preferably working with special collections or archival materials.
- At least one year experience working with digitizing materials.
- At least one year experience supervising students.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Specialization in archives or special collections
