DescriptionThe Hague, Netherlands, 25 June 2013 -
Are you a newly-qualified or soon-to-be-qualified librarian? Would you like to work in an English-speaking international team? Then come and join The European Library team, based in the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague.
We are looking for an intern to join our Digital Research Team. Your internship will be to liaise with national and research libraries across Europe, helping gain exposure of the rich collections they hold - not just books, but documents, manuscripts, maps, audio-visual material etc. - in both digital and physical form. You will ensure that the descriptions of their collections are up-to-date, accurate and of relevance to the research and other communities that make use of The European Library website.
We are looking for someone who has qualifications in librarianship or a closely-related subject. You must be able
- to speak and write English to a very high standard; knowledge of other languages is useful but not obligatory,
- to understand the nature of national and research library collections, both in physical and digital form
- to understand the metadata standards and formats used to catalogue such collections
- to understand how library collections may be used in research
The European Library is completely owned and run by the libraries of Europe. It provides a single point of access to the collections of Europe's national and research libraries, a vast dataset of 200 million bibliographic records and metadata to 18 million digital objects.
We are the libraries aggregator for Europeana, the gateway to digital cultural heritage of Europe's museums, libraries and archives.
